Full Text

For the Western Democrat.

TO THE CITIZENS OF MECKLENBURG COUNTY.

I see that my name has been announced as a candidate to represent Mecklenburg county in the House of Commons of the next General Assembly. I appreciate the partiality of my friends, but must be permitted to respectfully decline allowing the use of my name at this time. I was a Union man as long as there was any reasonable hope of saving the Union on honorable and fair terms to the South. but when it became evident that such could not be done. I heartily co-operated with the friends of the South and favor a resistance of the Lincoln Government to the last extremity.

Respectfully,
R. I. DEARMON.
