John Philip Sousa, famous "march king" and bandmaster, known the world around, died suddenly Sunday morning. He had attended a banquet two hours prior to his death, having gone to Reading, Pa., especially to act as guest conductor at the 80th anniversary of the Ringgold band of that city. Sousa was band leader of the U. S. Marine band from 1880 to 1892 when he organized Sousa's Band, with which he has toured the world several times. He was an outstanding composer of band music, had written several books and operettas.
