About 2000 strikers gathered about the dwelling of Armour's employee, a Knight of Labor who refused to strike, as he attempted to move his household goods. The employee was attacked by the mob but the crowd was dispersed by a company of militia, who left Pinkerton men to protect the goods. A new crowd nearly overpowered the guards until another militia company arrived, charged through the mob, arrested six men, and routed the rest.
