FISH KILL, May 1.

Last appeared coming up the sound from New York, and soon after came to anchor near Fairfield, in Connecticut: and in the evening about 3000 of the enemy landed at a place called Compoo, about 6 miles west of Fairfield, and early next morning marched to Danbury, which place they set on fire, and great part of it is entirely consumed. They likewise took possession of the continental stores at that place, which were very considerable, and destroyed them. The enemy used some of the inhabitants with great barbarity.

They were attacked in their retreat by a party of militia, and lost about 200 killed and taken prisoners. General Wooster, we are told, is badly wounded. General Arnold had his horse shot under him. Colonel Lamb is slightly wounded; and about 13 others killed, and some wounded, of our people. The enemy tarried all night in Danbury. Tryon told the people of the house where he lodged, that the troops would not have come there, had they not been conducted by our own people; meaning, no doubt, the Tories.

The enemy had got back to their shipping before general McDougal could come up with them. We have not been able to learn farther particulars.
