BABY SOLE SURVIVOR

FAIRBANKS (AP) - A single engine Wien-Alaska Airlines plane crashed on lagoon ice near Point Barrow Wednesday, killing the pilot George Harrington and an Eskimo woman passenger, Mrs. Martha Ruth Simmons.

But by a strange quirk of fate Mrs. Simmons' 6-month-old boy, strapped inside his mother's fur parka, survived. The woman and infant were hurled 90 feet by the impact of the crash, which is believed to have occurred during a snow flurry.

Rescuers took the baby to the Point Barrow hospital with possible internal injuries.
