Monday night the dam at Lake Chautauqua, or Cushman's lake as it is more commonly known, broke and the waters rushed in a big body down into the south fork of the San Miguel river, doing a damage estimated at nearly $4,000, the Western Colorado Power company being much the larger loser because of taking out a couple of long spans of the water flume which furnishes power to their electric generating plant at Ilium, although the county came in for a loss of about $500 on account of damage to the road on Turkey creek mesa as well as the lower Ophir road which runs up the river from the foot of Keystone hill.—Telluride Examiner.
