TIM TYLER
Hit By Baseball Bat, Table Lamp,
Man Goes To Grady

A 31-year-old man, accused by his wife and father-in-law of seeking to vent his alleged anger on his mate was felled early Monday by a baseball bat that fractured his skull and a table lamp that was shattered over his head in what may have been the first local violence in July.

Police said Ernest Mosley of 493 Martin St., was admitted at Grady Hospital Monday for treatment of a fractured skull. He was also placed under arrest on suspicion of attempting to attack his wife.

Mrs. Sallie Mae Mosley, 23, also of the Martin St. address was apparently unhurt but listed by police as the victim of the incident which led to her husband's injury at approximately 1:05 a.m. Monday.

Radio Patrolmen B.L. Payne and F.A. Turner quoted Mrs. Mosley as saying her husband got angry with her over some undisclosed incident and she fled to the home of her father at 81 Hammock Pl. S.W.

She told police she ran into the house and locked the door with her husband in close pursuit. She said he broke out the glass in the front door and then went to a window after he was still unable to gain entrance to the house.

Mrs. Mosley was further quoted as saying her husband removed a screen from the window and began to climb in. At this instant, she said, Simon Freeman, owner of the house, ordered Mosley to leave the property.

Police quoted Mrs. Mosley as saying Mosley continued to come through the window with an open knife in his hand and both she and Freeman struck him on the head.

Freeman reportedly hit him with a baseball bat and Mrs. Freeman with a table lamp.

Mosley was then rushed to Grady Hospital where examination revealed he had sustained a skull fracture.
