Let Me Tell You-
By MRS. CLARENCE PEARCE
Havana, Florida
Its quite amusing to watch the various gum chewers. In fact, it proves quite entertaining when riding on a crowded bus. One chews viciously and vengefully. Ah, there you are, now I've got you. Then you will see the surprised chewer and also the bored chewer.
Some very peculiar things seem to happen to us poor housewives. For example, the other day while I was shopping for groceries, I observed another lady beside me, purchasing her weekly supplies from a long written grocery list, and after nearly completing said list, she discovered she had been using an old list from the previous week.
Duncan L. has a sprained arm, we think, caused by turning too many hand springs, in celebration of the much needed rain on his tobacco. Of course he has a different story.
Clarence Pearce was quite alarmed the other night when he turned on the electricity at the house and discovered no current. Rather than take the trouble of examining the fuse box, he yelled across the street to neighbor Sam, inquiring about their current. Sam quickly retaliated to brother Pearce, if perhaps, he would pay his light bill, he too, might have current. We were later assured that it was only a bad fuse.
It's so nice to live in a small town, where the trees nearly meet over the street. You can wave your hand and speak to very one you meet. You may stop outside a grocery store and hear friendly gossip of the folks moving in next door. Your life is interwoven with the friends you learn to know. You feel their joys and sorrows and they come and go. I'm very glad to live in a small town, and do not care to roam, for this is my home.
