Attorney in Schall Contest
Supplementary Petition in Move to Unseat Senator Drafted
New and sensational charges against Senator Thomas D. Schall are to be filed within several weeks with the United States senate committee in connection with its investigation of corruption alleged to have figured in Schall's election last November, it was revealed by Donak G. Hughes, counsel for Magnus Johnson, plaintiff in a suit demanding Schall's removal from office.
While the nature of new allegations was not disclosed pending the preparation of new phases of the contest, Mr. Hughes declared that they are more sensational in character than the original charges filed against Schall in January.
Boose 'Slush Fund' Charged
1—An $80,000 "slush fund" contributed by bootleggers figured in Schall's election.
2—Schall violated the corrupt practices act by intimating in campaign speeches that Johnson received $25,000 as a "gift" in connection with the promotion of the work court plan.
Charges in New Petition
"The new charges will be continued in a supplementary petition to be filed with the United States senate committee within several weeks," Mr. Hughes stated. "The nature of the charges will be disclosed when the petition is filed."
The sub-committee named to investigate Schall's election will arrive in Minneapolis for its hearings in June, according to the latest information received by Mr. Hughes.
