Full Text

Tazewell County.

Mr. Cameron addressed the voters of Tazewell last week. The News says of him: "Colonel Cameron seemed to be unfortunate in having been heralded as an eloquent and impressive speaker, whereas his reputation has been gained rather by his pen than his tongue; the general feeling, as far as an outsider could learn it, being one of disappointment."

The same paper says of the county: "We have never seen a more full or harmonious County Convention than that gathered at the court-house Tuesday morning. It is but one of the many indications that surely point to a splendid result in November. The people of Tazewell, who have never been laggards in the cause of true Democracy, are beginning to see that, notwithstanding the plausible demagoguery of the Mahoneites and their false issues, now of all times is an era in their party history when its very life is at stake, and they will govern themselves accordingly."

They are finding out what manner of man General Grant is. The Cincinnati Commercial says: "There never was a more preposterous letter written than that of General Grant to Senator Jones. It is the only thing known as foolish as Conkling's resignation."
