EDITOR Hawk-Eye:—Being on a Committee in the Fourth Ward, to procure subscriptions for raising a volunteer fund, we came across several men who being the wealthiest in the Ward, refused to subscribe one single dollar. They, par excellence, were in favor of the Draft. "Suppose the Draft had taken place, would the Government have got the full number of men required from our Ward, not a bit of it, unless all such were drafted who were unable to pay the $300? Now the Government gets the full quota, no conscripts, but volunteers. And now one word to these very patriotic men, these Bulls of Lower Town, in whose eyes a copper is larger than a cart-wheel,—we have cleared you from the Draft,—no night-mare need disturb your coming nights. You can save your $300. The poor laboring man has cleared you from the odium of the Draft. Hoard up your green-backs, and fill your coffers, but remember one thing,—you still live in the Fourth Ward, and the future will teach you one thing, the moral of which will haunt you the remainder of your days.
