Dr. Robert T. Brumfield, professor in the Science Department at Longwood, spoke on "New Fields in Science for Women" at the regular monthly meeting of the Farmville Business and Professional Woman's Club, Thursday night, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. He was introduced by Mrs. Verna S. Pritchett, chairman of the Education and Vocations committee.
Dr. Brumfield indicated that careers need not interfere with motherhood; in fact, he believes that mothers who work in the field of science are actually benefiting the future lives of their children. He mentioned, as examples, a number of graduates from Longwood College who now have careers in science combined with a normal family life.
Four new members, Ardelle Struck, Adelaide Edwards, Anne Maghey and Nell F. Harris, were inducted into the club, sponsored by Mrs. Roxie T. Jones, chairman of the membership committee.
Prior to the general meeting, an executive board meeting was held at 7:30 p.m. for committee chairman and officers, with Mrs. Vaude Missimer, president, presiding.
A bulletin entitled, "Let's Keep Informed," was distributed among the members. This three-sheet mimeographed bulletin printed items of interest to local B and PW members, including local and State news. It also mentioned that the Farmville club had passed out 12,000 cards for the Referendum Meeting, held recently at Jarman Hall.
