CALIFORNIA BAKERY MAKES PRESENT TO CARPENTERS AND THEY INVITE THEIR FRIENDS TO SAMPLE IT BY WAY OF LABOR CELEBRATION

For several reasons the proposed celebration of Labor Day by the different labor organizations in Salem this year, was called off at the last minute and there was nothing of an elaborate nature on tap in this city today. but, in view of the fact that the California Bakery had baked a huge fruit cake and donated the same to the Carpenters' Union, of this city, especially for the Labor Day festivities, the Carpenters' union, allied with other unions of the city. is holding a grand carnival upon the strength of the toothsome delicacy at their hall,. No. 420 State street, this afternoon.

The cake measures two feet by 18 inches and is three inches in thickness. decorated in white frosting and bearing the inscription, "Carpenters' Union No. 1065; United We Stand; Salem, Oregon; by California Bakery," in pink frosting.

The other unions participating in the festivities, as guests of the carpenters are the painters, decorators and paper-hangers of America, No. 724, and Capital Typographical Union, No. 210.

The Carpenters's union, was organized April 11. 1902, has a membership of 125 in good standing and meets every Saturday night at their hall, No. 420 State street.

The committee upon entertainment is composed of A. W. Dennis, E. L. Briggs and W. H. Woods.
