Ruth, 36, Given Birthday Party: 12,000 Attend

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Sept. 19-(A.P.)-An elephant and an estimated 12,000 persons went Sunday to the Little Rock Zoo to give Ruth, the elephant, a birthday party.

Ruth was permitted to go off her strict diet to taste the first piece of cake eight by seven feet square, five feet tall and weighing about 800 pounds. Then youngsters and adults alike filed by for their pieces.

Ruth-who had been given a special bath, pedicure (polish toe-nails) and singe for the occasion-provided the entertainment. She went through a routine of tricks she learned in a circus years ago.

Ruth is 36 years old.
