Sidney will celebrate its 50th anniversary Saturday. The postoffice was established there Oct. 22, 1888. It was housed in a log building which was also a store and home for the postmistress, Maggie Crossen. When the petition for the office was first circulated it asked for an office at Eureka, Mont., but the government requested another name as there already was a Eureka in the state. A group met at the home of Justice of the Peace Otis to decide upon a name and selected that of the six-year-old Sidney, son of one of Otis' workers.
