To those who have in some degree kept account of the civic work
of Charles L. Horn it was no surprise to learn that he had given another $50,000 toward the building of a new City Hall for Anoka.
However, giving lavishly of his money to the public good is not by
any means the only public service that Charlie Horn has and is rendering.
This writer well recalls back in the stormy days of industrial
strife when Charles Horn spent much time in endeavoring to bring
about industrial peace where industrial hostility had come about from
a strike. Indeed there was one particular situation where Mr. Horn
spent six months in bringing the parties to even talk to each other and
then finally the meetings resulted in an agreement for this large plant
and the union involved.
This was only one instance. There are several where there was a
deadlock that Mr. Horn gave of his time over a long period to bring
adjustments between employers and unions.
That is about as valuable a public service as there can be, turning
industrial war to industrial peace. That is the endeavor and attitude
that benefits a city, makes it grow and prosper and makes its
people happier.
That is the old pioneer attitude and if more will practice it in
Anoka and Minneapolis and everywhere everyone will be better off
and happier.
In addition to all this, Mr. Horn is the leading conservationist of
the state. That is something people will more appreciate as time goes
by. -Minneapolis Labor Review
