TURNS DOWN OFFER.

Wilmington Wants Railroad More than $100,000.

Wilmington, Aug. 15-This town yesterday turned down an offer of $100,000 and a steamboat line and decided to hold on to its railway. Five hundred men and women voted and the verdict was unanimous.

Construction of a great dam on the Deerfield river at Whitingham, 12 miles below this point, will place the tracks of the Hoosac tunnel & Wilmington railroad, 200 feet under water.

President Henry I. Harriman of the New England Power company, owner of the dam and line, offered the residents a cash bonus and a steamboat line as the alternative to relocating the railway.
