Previous to the adjournment of Congress a few thousand dollars, in Eagles and half Eagles of the new coinage, were procured for the Bank of the Metropolis, with a view of enabling members of Congress to carry home with them a small quantity of Gold. From fifty to one hundred dollars were accordingly paid to each member who wished it, in Gold-but TWO PER CENT WAS CHARGED FOR IT. We assert it to be a fact-if not "of our own knowledge," at least-upon the authority of a member of Congress of the highest respectability, who consented to be thus shaved, by the deposite Bank of Washington.-Fred.
