Full Text

An amorous youth named Henry Fisher, who it appears, had unsuccessfully paid his addresses to a young lady named Ann Kerwig, who figures as a musician at Palmo's, took his station beside the young lady on Tuesday evening, and vowed most vehemently that if she any longer rejected his address, he was determined to soften her hard heart by driving a bullet through it; and, in order to show that he was in earnest, he took out a pistol and pointed the muzzle of it to her bosom. Miss Kerwig, however, being very loth to be wooed and won after so strange a fashion, screamed out most vigorously, and officer Walsh, who was within hearing, rushed to the spot and seized hold of him, and disarmed him, and brought him to the police office. In vain did poor Mr. Fisher allege that the cruelty of his mistress had driven him to desperation, and that he had only intended to frighten her into loving him; that such a mode of making love was clearly contrary to the statute, and that he must find good bail not to perforate the heart either of Miss Kerwig or any other person for twelve months to come, or in default thereof be shut up in prison.--Ledger.
