From the Connecticut Herald.
Sir John Falstaff boasted that he fought
single handed, eleven men in buckram suits.
The resolutions of our democratic societies,
threatening to sacrifice their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor in defence
of the embargo, reminds one continually of
that facetious and grave Knight. He was
always proclaiming his courage and zeal for
the king his master, but still when called
upon to fight, his invariable maxim was,
that "discretion was the better part of valour."
As our democratic brethren appear anxious
to display their courage in the field, I
would humbly propose that they march to
Pennsylvania, and join forces with the Marshal
of that District, who is now opposed in
serving a writ from the Supreme Court of
the United States, by the Militia of that
State under the command of their brother
Simon Snyder. Here is a field open for action—as to professions, they are not costly—
they never test men's integrity or fortitude.
Let them face danger, death, and Governor
Snyder-then we will allow them spunk,
nerve, and patriotism.
