Democratic Politics.
The Erie and Niagara County Democrats Not for Cleveland.

To THE EDITOR OF The Sun--Sir: As the time for the selection of the standard bearers for the Democratic party in the canvass to take place next fall approaches, the question of who is the most acceptable to that party as its candidate for the Presidency is frequently talked of and discussed among members of that party.

I desire to inform you, briefly, that the sentiment of the Democratic party in Niagara county is averse to the renomination of Mr. Cleveland. That fact will be made known when the time comes for the election of delegates to the State Convention. The readers of The Sun have been so ably and forcibly informed of the reasons for this opposition to Mr. Cleveland's renomination that it would be superfluous to detail them here.

In the county of Erie and the city of Buffalo, Mr. Cleveland's former home, the great majority of the rank and file of the Democratic party is opposed to his renomination. Indeed, his chances of carrying the State of New York as against Blaine would be very poor, while no Democrat doubts the ability of Governor Hill to succeed by a large majority.

The Hon. R. P. Flower has a large number of friends in this county and western New York who are urging his nomination for Governor on the ticket with Hill for President. With such a ticket no well-informed Democrat doubts but that the State of New York could be carried for the Democracy by 50,000 majority, and in the doubtful States, such as Indiana, Connecticut, and New Jersey, the best information obtainable concedes the fact that Hill for President would be far stronger and more satisfactory to the Democrats than Mr. Cleveland. There would be harmony among the rank and file of the party, and the Democracy of the nation once more united would move forward to certain victory.
