Vic Rivers Says No Tax Increases Appear Necessary
JUNEAU, -- No tax increases for Alaskans appear necessary for the support of a state government, it was reported Thursday by Territorial Senate President Victor Rivers, Democratic candidate for governor of the new state of Alaska.
Rivers conferred in the Juneau office of tax commissioner Robert Stevenson, and said the "financial position of the territory is far ahead of estimate of spending made by the last legislature.
The territorial fund is in good shape and under the present rate of income the new state will not be forced to carry any additional burdens."
