PORTSMOUTH.
On Wednesday last arrived here from Philadelphia, Brigadier General JOHN SULLIVAN, Esq; one of the Delegates from this Colony to the Hon. Continental Congress, he was escorted into Town by seventy Gentlemen on Horseback and thirty more in Carriages ; at his Entrance all the Bells rang a joyful Peal, and he was attended to his Lodgings by a great Concourse of People ; after which a great Number of Gentlemen who could not go out conveniently to meet him, waited on him with their Compliments of Congratulation on his safe Return and Honorable Appointment. He was invited by a Select Number of the Sons of Freedom to dine with them at Mr. Nathaniel Folsom's where a genteel Entertainment was prepared at their Expence, at which there were at least seventy Gentlemen present, after Dinner the following Toasts were drank. GOD bless King George, and his most amiable Queen Charlotte. The Colony of New-Hampshire. The Hon. Continental Congress at Philadelphia. General Washington. General Ward. General Lee. Brigadier General Sullivan, and all the other worthy Generals and Officers of the united American Army. The grand Army of the united American Colonies. Lord Chatham. Lord Camden.. The Marquis of Rockingham, and all the protecting Lords of Parliament. The Lord Mayor and Common Council of the City of London. Henry Cruger, Esq; and all the worthy Advocates of America in the House of Commons and elsewhere in England. That Hon. and truly American Patriot, John Hancock, Esq; The most respectable Mr. Samuel Adams. Our worthy Delegate Mr. John Langdon, now at the Continental Congress. All the suffering Sons of Liberty throughout America. May America never want her own Bravery to defend her just Rights and Privileges. May the Friends of America flourish in Prosperity, while her Enemies perish in Adversity. /May the People of England discern their Destiny before it is hid from their Eyes. Many other Sentimental Toasts were drank, and every One seemed to emulate with each other to shew his Attachment to his Country and general Satisfaction appeared in the Countenance of the whole Company, consistent with the gloomy Aspect of the Times, The Brigadier took Leave at six, and last Saturday went from his Seat in Durham to Head Quarters, where we pray that the GOD of Armies may cover his Head and the Heads of all the Army, from Danger in the Day of Battle, and all the People likewise say AMEN.
