OLD AND NEW SENATORS.—The terms of the following named United States Senators expire on the 4th of March next: Messrs. Bayard of Delaware, Buckalew of Pennsylvania, Chandler of Michigan, Conness of California, Dixon of Connecticut, Doolittle of Wisconsin, Edmunds of Vermont, Frelinghuysen of New Jersey, Henderson of Missouri, Hendricks of Indiana, Morgan of New York, Morrill of Maine, Patterson of Tennessee, Ramsay of Minnesota, Sprague of Rhode Island, Stewart of Nevada, Sumner of Massachusetts, Tipton of Nebraska, Van Winkle of West Virginia, Wade of Ohio, Welch of Florida, and Whyte of Maryland. Of these 22 Senators, only two, so far, have been re-elected,—Messrs. Edmunds and Sprague, both Republicans. In California, Eugene Casserly, Democrat, has been elected to succeed Mr. Conness, Republican; in Connecticut, ex-Gov. Buckingham, Republican, has been elected to succeed Mr. Dixon. Mr. Patterson, of Tennessee, Democrat, and son-in-law of President Johnson, is to be succeeded by Parson Brownlow. Ohio will exchange Ben. Wade, Republican, for Judge Allen G. Thurman, Democrat; and Maryland, William Pinkney Whyte for William T. Hamilton, both Democrats. Massachusetts will, of course, re-elect Senator Sumner, and probably also, Mr. Morgan will be re-elected in New York and Mr. Chandler, in Michigan.
