THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE.

We give space to this important document because it deals almost exclusively with a matter that is of supreme importance to the farmers of the country—the reduction of taxation. We have an overflowing treasury and a people with empty pockets. Speculation runs high and all great monied enterprises flourish, but the farmers are in a deplorable condition financially. They would do well to study and investigate the causes which have brought about this unnatural and singular condition of affairs. The President talks very plainly on this subject.
