WORLD CONGRESS
AGAINST WAR OPENS:
NEGROES TAKE PART
Amsterdam (CNA) Sept. 5--More than two thousand delegates from thirty-five countries were present at the opening last week of the World Congress against War, which is taking place in the great Rai Building here. Joe Gardner, an American Negro veteran, was among those chosen to sit on the presiding committee for the duration of the Congress.
The World Congress against War was called on the initiative of a group of liberal leaders of many nations. Included in the American Committee are a number of Negro leaders. Eugene Gordon, writer and critic; W. A. Domingo, editor, and others.
The struggle against the danger of an impending World War is the theme of the Congress, and plans will be laid to carry on such a struggle in all countries.
Mrs. Ada Wright, mother of two of the nine Scottsboro boys, who is now on tour of Europe, addressed the Congress and urged the delegates to intensify the fight for the freedom of these boys. The Congress unanimously adopted a resolution calling for their release.
