Full Text

We perceive by an article in the New-York American, that steamboat racing is continued on the North River. It is astonishing, after the many disastrous and terrible consequences which have resulted from this senseless practice, that it is for a moment tolerated by the public. We fear that some of these days an explosion or some other fatal termination will be put to these exploits. Families and the community will then mourn over the mangled remains of their friends and fellow-citizens with the consciousness of having been in some degree accessary to the calamity.

Let a rule be established that no boat, upon any consideration, be employed that is detected in running races with another boat while passengers are on board.
