Wife of Jackie's Business Manager Charges Alienation of Affections
Los Angeles, Feb. 28.-(A)-Mrs. Lillian Coogan, mother of Jackie Coogan, famous film juvenile, today began a fight against a $750,000 alienation of affections suit brought against her by Mrs. Corabel Bernstein, wife of Arthur Bernstein, business manager of Jackie Coogan-picture corporation.
The alienation suit, filed by Mrs. Bernstein along with a divorce action against her husband, charged the mother of the noted film youngster with indiscretions involving the manager of the film company. It was branded as "a silly fabrication absolutely without foundation" by Mrs. Coogan.
Attorneys for Mrs. Coogan announced that there would be no settlement or talk of settlement, and that the action would be fought out in court.
Mrs. Bernstein's suit for divorce named Mrs. Coogan as co-respondent. Mrs. Bernstein alleged her husband had been induced to violate his marriage vows by Mrs. Coogan and that for a period of two years they had been "too intimate."
Besides the heavy damages asked of Mrs. Coogan, Mrs. Bernstein sought alimony of $1,000 monthly and $11,000 for court and attorney fees. She said she and Bernstein owned community property valued at $250,000 to $300,000 and that the latter's income was $9,000 a month.
