WILSON, N.C. (P)—The case of a plumber seeking to recover $18,000 he says he found in a hot water heater opens in superior court today.
C. Louis Deans, 26, says he found 180 one hundred dollar bills in a cloth bag in the home of M. C. Godwin near Buckhorn Oct. 5, 1955. Godwin now has the money.
Deans says he showed the bag to Godwin and that Godwin professed no knowledge of it or its contents, but offered him a $5 reward. He is seeking recovery on grounds Godwin knew nothing about the bag prior to its discovery.
Godwin lost out in another court action in which he sought to have Deans' claim dismissed. Godwin contended the money was hidden by his wife, who had died June 18, 1954.
