FIRE AT STAUNTON.
We regret to learn, from a messenger in the stage, that the work-shops of the Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb and Blind at Staunton were destroyed by fire on Thursday morning. The extent of the loss is not stated.
The Staunton Spectator confirms the account, and states that the building destroyed was used for the mechanical operations of the Institution, and stood within a few feet of the main building. The Chapel was several times on fire, and at one time it was believed that the whole establishment would be consumed.
The Augusta Fire Association was on the ground, and the pupils of both departments worked most creditably to stay the flames. By the united exertions of both, the flames were arrested. We have not learned how the fire originated.
