COHEN WILL NOT HANG MARCH 27

Condemned Man Will be Given Another Lease on Life

Abe Cohen, the condemned murderer of Susie Rodgers, who was sentenced in the Superior Court yesterday for the third time. will not hang on March 27, as ordered by Judge Barrow. His counsel, James F. Evans, will have the exceptions to the charge of Judge Barrow reviewed by the court of last resort, and it is probable that it will be nearly a year before Cohen will expiate for his diabolical deed.

It is now too late for the case to be heard by the Supreme Court at its March term, criminal matters of more pressing importance taking precedence, and it will be at least six months before his case is finally passed upon. The remittitur from the Supreme Court will have to be transmitted to the lower court, the judgment of that court made the judgment of the Superior Court and another sentence pronounced.

His counsel is receiving no compensation for his labors. The filing of the exceptions entails quite a large amount of work. Mr. Evans thinks that it is his duty as counsel for the condemned man to take advantage of all of the safeguards which the law throws about the accused. and for that reason will continue his services, with the hope that eventually the sentence of the court may be commuted to life imprisonment.
