The Republicans held the situation, there being 40 candidates out for nomination against four Democratic aspirants. In our own ward, Ernest Schuster, won out in a hard fought contest for alderman with two doughty opponents. Thos. G. Alvord and Geo. Emrich. Schuster received 170 votes against 100 for Emrich and 77 for Alvord. I. H. Clark on the Social Democratic ticket secured the nomination, there being no opposition. Ray Nye, republican secured the nomination by a unanimous vote for the office of supervisor, there being no opposition.
The city assessorship seemed to be the plum of the whole primary election. There were five aspirants out for the honor on the Republican ticket while one name only appeared on the Democratic list. C. H. Bird is the Democratic nominee. In the Republican contest the fight was by no means a hard one, the result showing a walk away for Tiedeman, who received a vote of 1012, against 575 received by Olson his closest competitor.
