One of the best and most descriptive cartoons this column has seen of the war situation this year is in this week's issue of the magazine Ken. It shows two angels atop clouds watching a war-spouting fighting world below. One of them says rather fittingly to the other, pointing to the blood-dripping mess:

"Fools! Don't they know they're only transients?"

That angel "has something there."

That the world is definitely on the march to days similar to those of the pre-World War era is evidenced almost every day. One is alarmed at the interest war and its destructive hordes are causing in this country. Officially "under fire" in dictator and reactionary quarters is our President Roosevelt, who last week called a secret parley with the senate military affairs committee. Quoted as saying that the American frontier was the Rhine River, between France and Germany, the Chief Executive stamped the allegation as a "deliberate lie." Said he further:

"The (foreign) policy has not changed and is not going to change."

In Italy, Mr. Roosevelt was termed, among other things as public enemy to peace No. 1." The German press almost similarly brands him. Meanwhile, they fight very definitely in China and Spain. The Spanish massacre and its aftermath will probably surpass all the Spanish Inquisitions and Moorish onslaughts. Even after a time-victory, we may still ask: "What next?"

No wonder the angels are watching with disgust and saying: "Fools! Don't they know they're only transients?"
