THE SERIOUS ILLNESS of Sen. Robert A. Taft of Ohio is giving concern to millions of American people, regardless of their political views. For "Mr. Republican" for many years has had the respect, if not the agreement as to policy, of his opponents as well as his political associates.
Even those who have been most opposed have conceded the fine intellect, the ability and the integrity of Ohio's famous statesman.
If, as has been reported, his days in public life are numbered even though he overcomes his serious ailment, the entire nation will be the loser.
For Robert A. Taft, either as administration supporter or critical spokesman for the opposition, has always had what he sincerely believed to be the welfare of his country at heart.
The best wishes, and the prayers, of millions of Americans are directed toward Senator Taft in his hospital bed.
