Madame Chiang And Eden
Two of the most distinguished persons ever to touch these shores at the same period are about to quit us after spending several weeks with us. One, Madam Chiang, is no doubt the foremost woman of the world today. The other, Anthony Eden, heir-apparent to Winston Churchill, represents British Imperialism and therefore is a clansman (not klansman).
One is of the Occident, the other, of the Orient. It should not be long before all and sundry will know what effect their visits had on their countries, technically locked in a death struggle with a common enemy.
You hear and read more of Madame Chiang. That was natural. However, Eden will get what he came for quicker than the comely first female of the world. Eden represents power--Madam represents "potential" power.... something must be done for both with dispatch if this carnage is to end within the next year or two.
By all means clip the public utterances of both of these statesmen: statesman is a proper word to employ when referring to China's great lady. She was on a MAN's mission.
Madame comes nearer representing "Democracy," if there is anything in the world in which we live, than the Eton educated Eden, who thinks of the British Empire "FIRST" and human beings afterwards. You will, in going over their remarks, find little or no mention of China, virtually none of INDIA, where Gandhi holds sway over the hearts and minds of hundreds of millions: maybe when the last battle is fought India's millions will be classed as human beings. Great Britain could do much for her looks if she sent some of her soiled linen to the laundry; particularly that in India. The civilization of India is thousands of years older than Britain's. When Eden's ancestors were long-toothed cavemen, Gandhi's antecedents were enjoying a high type of civilization: being educated, Mr. Eden is well aware of that historical fact. Madame Chiang would get everything she needs if America could vote on the matter.
