On Monday the 12th ult the lightning descended on the house of Mr. Ebenezer Joy, of Plainfield, in this State--it tore off part of the roof, passed through a room, and struck down Mrs. Joy, her child and a sister of Mr. Joy; as soon as Mr. Joy recovered from the small shock he received, he raised up his wife, sister and child, and laid them on the bed, supposing them all to be lifeless; but, leaving them a few minutes in order to call in the neighbours, and returning, he discovered signs of life in his sister and child, who, after some time, recovered; but the severity of the shock on Mrs Joy unhappily put an end to her existence.
