According to statements made today Herbert C. Switzer, former cashier of the O. R. & N. freight office in Spokane, will not be prosecuted for the alleged theft of $575. It is declared that money has been secured with which to make good the shortage.
Switzer was arrested October 17 on a warrant charging him with having embezzled money from the railroad company, the peculations extending over a period of four years. It was stated at the time that Switzer lost most of the money playing the slot machines.
Switzer was arraigned the next day before Judge Kenning and pleaded not guilty to the charge. No date for his trial was set.
Switzer turned over his home valued at $2000, but this did not keep the railroad company from ordering his arrest. It was given out today though that through the efforts of his wife and her family sufficient money had been raised to pay off the amount embezzled and that the railroad company and bonding company had agreed to dismiss the proceedings through the prosecuting attorney's office.
