The tenth annual report of the East Hartford Public Health Nursing Association, an abstract of which appears elsewhere in this issue, tells of the work the Association is doing in a way that should be of great interest to those who do not realize how much good work this body is carrying on in the town. The two nurses made 5,782 calls during the past year. They were called to the homes of 439 families. Those families received the benefit of skilled nursing care which certainly is worth a great deal when sickness enters the home. It is almost impossible to realize how much good these nurses accomplish by ministering to the people in their homes. They not only provide skilled nursing care for the sick, but they teach some member of the family where possible what to do in the nurse's absence. They also teach the laws of hygiene and sanitation.
But caring for the sick is not by any means all of the work which the Association does. The weekly Well Child Conferences are very important. Mothers bring their little ones and have them examined free of charge. Mothers are in that way told of any feature of the child's make-up which may need attention. They are also given hints and instruction as to the care of children which should be of immense value to many mothers. Especially to a young mother with her first child is such instruction of inestimable value.
The tenth annual report contains a suggestion which may be passed on to Gazette readers here. It is to this effect: Build yourself into the future of this community by naming the Public Health Nursing Association as residuary legatee in your will. It is stated that the East Hartford Trust Company will arrange this without cost to you. A suggestion that certainly is worth careful consideration.
