LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1. (ANP) Two of the nation's leading
painters, Hale Woodruff and
Charles Alston, have been commissioned to paint the murals of
the new skyscraper home of the
Golden State Insurance company.
It was announced here last week.
Their work will depict the story
of 100 years of progress of Negroes in California. Miss Miriam
Matthews, Los Angeles city librarian,
will assist the artists in their
research work. So will Titus Anderson,
a pioneer in this state.
Accompanying the artists on a
tour of the state will be Leonard
Grimes, assistant public relations
man of the company. The murals
will be painted in New York.
Woodruff is an instructor at
New York university, and Alston
painted the famous murals of the
Harlem hospital and at Talladega
college.
