D.V.F. DEPT. NOTES
The Douglas Volunteer Fire Department held the regular monthly
meeting last evening with Gordon
Gray presiding.
The greater part of the evening
was used in discussing the proper
type of hose the Department should
purchase with the proceeds of the
last annual dance.
Irl A. Thatcher of Ketchikan, was present at the meeting representing
his company, the Fabric Fire &
Hose Company. Gray appointed Rex
Hermann, Alex Gair and Guy Russo to check on the different types
of hose and to contact the underwriters and present their recommendations at the next meeting.
Rex Hermann gave a complete
report on the last annual dance and reported a very successful affair,
financially and socially. He praised the Channel businessmen for the fine support they give each year to the Douglas Department and to
his committee. He also reported the Empire and KINY had given free advertising for the affair.
Robert Wagner, Scoutmaster, reported on the activities of the Fire Department that sponsored Douglas
Boy Scouts at their two weeks outing at Eagle River.
It was decided that this year the Department would have a competition hose race on July Fourth
between Hose Co. No. 1 and No. 2,

hose.

M. F. Marshall and Fred Alberts
were accepted as new members of the Department, to be admitted at the next regular meeting.
Following the meeting refreshments were served by Tom Cashen,
Alex Gair and their committee.
