The Missouri mule kicked, the Missouri mule sat like a gentleman on a chair placed for him on the platform, and the Missouri mule furnished the chief attraction of the evening at the Y. M. C. A. monthly round-up last night, at which a large crowd of men was present.
The affair was a big success. The distinctively original features made it one which will be long remembered by those who attended, and Secretary Super deserves great credit for the smoothness with which the program was carried out.
The evening's enjoyment started with the singing of favorite college songs by the entire assembly.
"The Missouri Mule," a one-act farce, which took the house by storm, was presented by Charles Biart, a city chap; Arthur Myhre, a farmer; Thomas Lane, one who wanted to buy the mule; Paul Super, colored owner of the mule; Dr. Chandler and V. O. Banks, who represented the mule, and Mr. Bailey, field hand for the owner of the mule.
The farmer appeared on the stage reading an auction sale handbill, offering for sale an "edicated mule." He was followed by the city chap, who entered into a conversation with him, which consisted largely of take-offs on local townspeople.
The mule was led in and put through his paces, and the stunts he did were remarkable.
"A Day at the Post," in which J. Chatham Ewing told of his life at an army post, was excellent.
The talk was interspersed with bugle calls by the bugle corps from Fort Shafter. The hearty applause which these men received was certainly well earned.
Following this, slips of paper on which fifty words were printed were passed around, from which the recipients were asked to form a story.
Meanwhile coffee and doughnuts were enjoyed.
