LATE AND IMPORTANT.
London papers to the 16th December have been received at New-York. Last evening's Stage brought one New-York paper containing the latest and most important articles. It has not been in our power to procure it; but we are obliged to state the following prominent features of the intelligence.
Buonaparte writes, on the 18th November, that he had fallen on the Austrian corps of Davinovich—ruined them—totally dispersed them, taking many prisoners, one general and several pieces of cannon—and that he expected his next dispatches would be to surround Mantua.
The Directory has agreed to adopt the principle of reciprocal compensation as the ground work of the treaty. We understand this to mean; that they agree, that all the conquests they have made, even those annulled by the constitution of the Republic, shall be considered as objects of negociation.
A private letter in a London paper mentions, that at the date of the latest accounts from the Rhine, a bloody, desperate Battle was fighting—the issue not known.
