SANTA CRUZ, CA ANP-
The Student Institute for Pacific Relations met here November 26-29 for the purpose of promoting a better understanding of the peoples of the Pacific area. The Institute was founded in 1926 by a group of men and women from the universities of Stanford and California. Every year since that time students of every race and nationality meet during the Thanksgiving holidays to consider the economic, political, racial and cultural adjustments which will determine the direction of the new Pacific civilization. An attempt is made to have an equal representation of American and foreign students and to secure a wide variety of types. The chairman of this year's Institute was George Towns, colored student at the University of California.
Among the subjects discussed were: The Conflict of Forces in China Today; International Implications of Consumer Cooperation; The Causes and Results of Japan's Nationalistic Program; Current Political Trends of Latin America, as Related to the Pacific; and the Economic and Cultural History of Pacific Area.
