Full Text

Greensburg. Aug. 10.

Management is now in the full tide of successful experiment, in forestalling the public opinion on the question— Who is to be our next governor? although the election for governor does not take place before October, 1817, yet as the man whom the people are to elect, is to be first chosen by the caucus at Harrisburg, it therefore becomes necessary to select or assemble men, this fall, suitable materials for a legislative caucus— And to reach the height of this grand result, the people are now favored with instructions from "those who know things," through the columns of the democratic papers. The current appears at present to set in favor of Mr. Findlay, of Harrisburg. His friends very adroitly pass him off as the country candidate, while they stigmatize Mr. Boles with being in the interest of the city, and the city, it is intimated, wishes to rule the state. This last notion, by the way, is a good one, to originate with those who can see no objection to Virginia's ruling the union, and furnishing all our presidents Findlay and Boles are both democrats— both great luminaries in Pennsylvania. But one of them must fall.

"Two stars keep not their motion in one sphere;
Nor can one England brook a double reign
Of Harry Percy and the Prince of Wales."
