Full Text
The denials of the correctness of the statement in regard to Mr. John Ambler's resignation of the office of Marshal of Western Virginia, made by Mr. Faulknor and the Union simultaneously, carry very little weight with them where the facts are known—because both articles are evidently from the same pen. Mr. Ambler has not himself authorized a contradiction of the statement made by "Potomac," the correspondent of the Baltimore Patriot—nor do we believe he will authorize such a contradiction. It is time he should speak out, because his friends have either grossly misunderstood him, or he must be responsible for the "sheer fabrication" so flippantly talked about by the Representative of "my district." All we have to say about the affair, having published the notice, is, that having heretofore had faith in Mr. Ambler's veracity, we shall do as numerous friends elsewhere continue to do—believe him until he stultifies himself by a self-contradiction.
P. S.—Since penning the above, we have received the Baltimore Patriot, with Potomac's re-iteration of the charge, which we copy in another place.—Charlestown Free Press.
