Elisha H. Allen, chief justice of the Sandwich Islands, is on a visit to this country, after a long absence. Mr. Allen, formerly distinguished as a lawyer and a member of Congress, in which body his father, a resident at Northfield, Mass., served for many successive terms, was appointed consul at the islands by President Taylor. Upon the expiration of his term of office he soon received the invitation to accept his present post, the duties of which he has continued to discharge with great acceptance ever since.
