WASHINGTON -(SNS)-The Senate is expected to complete its action of the farm bill, the anti-lynching measure, government reorganization and housing legislation before the special session ends, Majority Leader Barkley believes.
He admitted that he was quite optimistic in his views to end the special session "about December 2," for the year-end holidays.
If the new farm legislation is completed within a week, the anti-lynching measure then would "automatically come up" under its preferred status, the majority leader said. Previous filibustering by southern senators against the lynching measure has indicated a stiff fight may be resumed against it.
Meanwhile both house and senate members argued leisurely over crop control legislation, and committees in both chambers began considering the President's recommendations for liberalizing the housing act.
