All prisoners in the Imperial county jail and desert prison camp, totaling 215 men, were given blood tests for syphilis Wednesday by Dr. Joseph Copeland, medical officer in charge of venereal disease free clinics in the county.
Hereafter the tests will be a part of the routine at the time new prisoners are photographed and fingerprinted. This is one of the steps necessary to rid the county of the disease.
Jail occupants were tested during the morning, camp dwellers during the afternoon, and the chain gangs were scheduled for the tests when they returned from work at 5 p.m.

County Prisoners Given Blood Tests To Check Syphilis
(Continued from Page 1)
Included in the venereal disease program planned for the county by the state department of health, there are two free clinics operating for the treatment of persons suffering from venereal diseases.
The two clinics opened soon after the first of the year and since that time the number of patients has increased so rapidly that it was necessary to extend the hours they are open, Dr. Copeland said.
The clinic in the basement of the county court house is open to patients all day every Thursday and every Friday and Saturday morning. One at the Brawley federal labor camp is open every Friday afternoon.
