The Friends to Liberty and the Protestant Religion, are once more very anxious for the safety of his Prussian Majesty, his situation being again very critical and dangerous. The odds are indeed greatly against him, since he hath two armies, each equal to his own in number, to contend with. But when we consider, that he hath so often in the course of this war, extricated himself out of difficulties seemingly insurmountable, and triumphed over the greatest inequality of numbers, we cannot but be of opinion, he will now again do so. And we have the greater reason for so believing, as he seems to have taken the properest measures for obtaining the assistance of that power, whose strength no enemies can resist, and whose arm always decides the die of battle.
"His Prussian Majesty, relying on the good providence which has so often aided, and so long protected him against the vast multitudes of his inveterate enemies, has, we are informed, together with his whole army, received the holy sacrament of the Lord's Supper. This was putting on the strongest armour. This was acting not only like a political commander, but a Christian hero; and cannot fail of inspiring his own forces with the highest courage and intrepidity, and at the same time striking his enemies with the deepest dread and terror."
"No man can be brave in battle that is afraid to die; and what man in his senses is there, but must be afraid of dying, that hath no hopes of being happy hereafter? Certainly, no consideration whatsoever can inspire men with such true courage, as believing that death is but the door to their eternal happiness. Soldiers under such belief, and possessed of such principles will seek danger, rather than avoid it: will attempt and perform the most surprising actions, and will fight against and overcome the most unequal numbers. And such, we will suppose, is the army which his Prussian Majesty now commands."
