500 Attend Birthday Fete Of Lodge 49

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Over 500 members and guests filled a banquet hall recently to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Lodge 49 here.

Assistant General Secretary and Treasurer L. E. Bates represented President Kennedy at the celebration, and was the featured speaker of the evening.

Governor-Elect Orval Faubus was present, and also gave a brief and well-received talk.

The following were seated at the speaker's table: Felix Wilson, legal aid investigator; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pyle, chief of police, North Little Rock; Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Perry, mayor North Little Rock; Mr. and Mrs. Sid McMath, ex-governor of Arkansas; Gov.-Elect and Mrs. Orval Faubus; Lee Bates, assistant GS&T; Edward Frederickson, legal counsel; John Haley, Jr., legal counsel; Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Crowe, general chairman of MOPAC; Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Hope, BRT legislative representative of Arkansas; Mrs. Edna Pearl Mara, wife of the toastmaster Earl Mara, Lodge 49 secretary-treasurer; Mr. and Mrs. Arbie C. Clark, field supervisor; Rev. and Mrs. W. E. Garrison, he is pastor of 1st Presbyterian Church in North Little Rock.

Other guests, seated at a special table, were: Mr. and Mrs. Lee Taylor, yard chairman Lodge 305; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Woods, attorney with Sid McMath; Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Hope, MOPAC superintendent; Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Tolar, MOPAC trainsmaster; Buck Billingsley and sister-in-law, he is road foreman of equipment; Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Williams, retired MOPAC southern district general manager; Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Stanley, MOPAC trainmaster; Mr. and Mrs. V. G. Ivey, chief booster MOPAC; Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Lawrence, chief clerk to the trainmaster; Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Dixon, assistant labor commissioner; Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Minor, MOPAC local chairman; Mr. and Mrs. Claude E. Sallade, he is a member of the Board of Insurance.

Mrs. B. D. Duvall was chairman of the arrangements committee and was assisted by C. M. Banks, J. I. Moore, G. C. Parker.

General chairman and master of ceremonies was Earl Mara, Lodge 49 secretary-treasurer.

Telegrams of congratulations were received from LA Grand President Mrs. Mary Gorman and BRT Vice-President E. B. Boggs.

Visiting members came from Lodges 30, 49, 449, 935, 958, 305, 290, 505, 602, 65, 222, 64, and 203.
